Communication Undergraduate Scholarship Application

Applicants must be officially declared Communication majors. The only exceptions are prospective students in high school or transfer students who want to be considered for the Department of Communication First Year Scholarship.

Scholarships are awarded for the 2019‐2020 academic year. Students graduating before Fall 2019 are not eligible.

Scholarship recipients must attend the Communication Department Awards Banquet to receive awards. Application information will be used to introduce you at the banquet if you are selected as a recipient.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Application forms must include all of the following: 

  • a current transcript
  • name and email of a reference for a letter of recommendation
  • a 1‐page resume
  • a 300‐500 word (double‐spaced) personal statement
  • Any additional items that may be required for students who want to be considered for Need‐Based, Deseret Digital Media, Deseret Book, Deseret News, or KSL Scholarships.

John R. Park Debate Society Scholarships. Students applying for scholarships from the Department’s John R. Park Debate Society should complete this application. When completing the application, you will be able to choose to apply for departmental scholarships, scholarships from our debate team, or both.

Need‐Based Scholarships: To be considered for a need‐based scholarship award, you are required to complete the 2019‐2020 FAFSA application. The application becomes available October 2018 and will require information from your 2017 taxes. (Students classified as dependent by FAFSA standards must also include parent 2017 tax information) FAFSA applications must be submitted online no later than February 1, 2019.

For students who would like to be considered for Deseret Digital Media, Deseret Book, Deseret News, or KSL Scholarships:

Drop off any additional materials required for the Deseret Digital Media, Deseret Book, Deseret News, or KSL scholarships as indicated below to LNCO 2400 by February 1, 2019. Click here for details about these scholarships.

Deseret Book: A portfolio of planning and executing strategic communication campaigns.
Deseret Digital Media: A portfolio of digital media. 
Deseret News: A portfolio of reporting and writing. 
KSL: A performance reel of reporting or producing (DVD acceptable; USB drive preferred).
