Communication Undergraduate Scholarship Application

Applicants must be officially declared Communication majors. The only exceptions are prospective students in high school who want to be considered for the Department of Communication First Year Scholarship.
Scholarships are awarded for the 2025‐2026 academic year. Students graduating before Fall 2025 are not eligible.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. Application forms must include all of the following:
- a current transcript
- name and email of a faculty member or instructor that can speak to your academic performance in the classroom
- a 1‐page resume
- a 300‐500 word (double‐spaced) personal statement
- Any additional items that may be required for students who want to be considered for Need‐Based, Deseret Digital Media, Deseret Book, Deseret News, or KSL Scholarships.
Need‐Based Scholarships: To be considered for a need‐based scholarship award, you are required to complete the 2025‐2026 <a href=https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/december-fafsa;application. The application becomes available December 1, 2024 and will require information from your 2023 taxes. (Students classified as dependent by FAFSA standards must also include parent 2023 tax information) FAFSA applications must be submitted online no later than January 31, 2025.

Deseret Book: A portfolio of planning and executing strategic communication campaigns.
Deseret Digital Media: A portfolio of digital media.
Deseret News: A portfolio of reporting and writing.
KSL: A performance reel of reporting or producing.
If you are not able to email these materials, please let us know and we can provide another option for submission.
John R. Park Debate Society Scholarships. The Department’s award-winning John R. Park Debate Society offers scholarships to current and prospective students participating on the debate team from majors across campus. To learn more about these scholarships, or to apply for one, visit the Debate Society’s scholarship website.
Please note: You must complete the Debate Society’s separate application to receive consideration.

Attach a 300‐500 word personal statement discussing your specific academic and career plans. If you check any of the specific priority boxes on this application, you must demonstrate in your personal statement how those circumstances apply to you.
Include any special considerations you would like the Scholarship Committee to be aware of. We suggest you work with the Career & Professional Development Center for assistance with writing a personal statement.
Upload a 1‐page resume with ALL of the following sections:
- Work experience, including internships.
- Honors and awards, including dates received.
- Special activities related to your academic studies, including dates.
- Special programs or organizations outside your academic studies, including dates.
We suggest you work with the Career & Professional Development Center to ensure your resume is written to professional standards.
- Please provide the name and email of an academic reference. This should be an instructor who can speak to your academic performance in the classroom. Recommendations must be submitted by February 17, 2023..
