Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center Scholarship Application 2019 – 2020 Scholarship Guidelines

The LGBT Resource Center awards a scholarship to 3-10 students every Spring Semester. The student must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.7, meet HB 144 requirements, and have already completed one semester of coursework at the University of Utah or another Higher Education institution at the time of application.

First time applicants will be considered first, and undergraduate as well as graduate students are encouraged to apply.

This scholarship requires completed application questions, an official copy of college transcript(s), and at least one letter of recommendation (one letter required, two letters recommended).

The areas of consideration for this scholarship are academic performance, involvement in LGBTQ* cultural/academic organizations, participation in LGBTQ* school-wide and community activities, personal goals and letters of recommendation, financial need, and any other special considerations you would like the committee to be aware of.


General Qualifications:

  • Submit a complete application by 11:59 pm, Friday, March 29th, 2019
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative 2.7 GPA
  • Must meet HB 144 Requirements
  • Be admitted to the University of Utah working on an undergraduate or graduate degree
  • Be a matriculated student at the University of Utah
  • Must have already completed 1 semester of coursework at the University of Utah or another Higher Education Institution at time of application
  • May not be employed in the University of Utah LGBT Resource Center (LGBT RC) at time of application or be scheduled to begin a graduate assistantship in the LGBT RC the following Fall semester
  • First-time applicants will be considered first
  • Graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to apply 


The following must be submitted for consideration:

  • A completed and submitted LGBT RC Scholarship application
  • Typed personal statement
  • Uploaded copy of college transcript(s)
  • Uploaded letter of recommendation from someone that can speak to your academic and leadership abilities (one required, two references recommended) 


Areas of Consideration:

1. Academic performance 0-15 Points Scoring is based on the student’s academic performance (GPA) and field of study.

2. Extra-Curricular Activities 0-20 Points Student’s involvement in LGBTQ* cultural/academic organizations, participation in LGBTQ* school-wide and community activities and/or employment will be noted.

3. Personal Goals & Recommendation(s) 0-20 Points a. Personal goals should be well defined and in line with the mission of the LGBT RC. b. We are judging on the content of the recommendation rather than the style of the writer.

4. Financial Need 0-30 Points Based on the provided documents and evaluator’s professional judgment, does the applicant show financial need?

5. Special Consideration 0-15 Points Personal barriers you have had to overcome to achieve your educational goals or any other special considerations/circumstances that you would like the committee to be aware of.
