Royal L. Garff Endowed Scholarship
The late Professor Emeritus Royal L. Garff taught marketing and public speaking for more than 40 years at the University of Utah. Professor Garff was an internationally known member of the Communication faculty and is remembered for his energy, enthusiasm, and inspired teaching. In tribute to her husband, Professor Garff’s wife, Maxine, established the Royal L. Garff Endowed Scholarship Fund in the Department of Communication in 1993. This scholarship is awarded to deserving students in need of financial assistance and who excel academically; preference is given to students in Communication Studies or Speech Communication. In addition, preference will be given to descendants of Royal L. Garff, so long as they meet the scholarship criteria and are otherwise equal to all other applicants.
For AY 2020-2021, one Royal L. Garff Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student, in the amount of $2000. Application materials to be uploaded to the website include a current CV; a 400-word essay that describes your fit with the scholarship criteria; a FAFSA form; an unofficial transcript; and the name and email address of one academic reference in the Department of Communication, who will be prompted to complete a brief online recommendation once you file your application. The deadline to make application is 16 March 2020. The Department of Communication Graduate Committee will review applications and select the recipient.
