Donal B. Hutchison Endowed Scholarship in the School of Medicine
Through this scholarship, the School of Medicine Admissions Office is able to provide recognition and financial assistance to members of the incoming class. Every year, the SFESOM Scholarship Committee strives to support as many deserving students as possible by selecting scholarship recipients whose attributes and actions resonate with the wishes of the donors. This scholarship is contingent upon the receipt of funds each year.
About Donal Hutchison
Donal B. Hutchison graduated from Ogden High School in 1946. After joining the U.S. Army and serving in Korea, he enrolled at the University of Utah. He graduated with a BA Degree in Business Administration and subsequently worked at First Security Bank for many years. He is a Past President of the Ute Club, Past President and Past Treasurer of the Ogden Chapter of the American Institute of Banking, and Past President of the Ogden Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was the owner of Summit County Title and a partner in Gaydos Investments, LLC. He happily retired after selling his business interests. He was an enthusiastic skier and tennis player, but his primary joy was golf, at which he excelled. He became a benefactor at the U Health Sciences Center and established the Donal B. Hutchison Endowed Scholarship at the School of Medicine.
Selection Criteria:
Eligible candidates shall be an accepted incoming medical student with outstanding academic achievement. Leadership roles, and/or military involvement, and students in need of financial assistance* are also considered but not required.
Application Timeline
First review of applications will happen the second week of January and scholarships will be awarded on a rolling basis as the incoming class is finalized

*School of Medicine scholarship opportunities for students that are in need of financial assistance require that students meet one of the following marked on their AMCAS application:
- SES -Socioeconomic Status
- A participant in Childhood Federal Assistance Program
- Pell Grant eligible
- Qualified for the Application Fee Assistance
- The Scholarship Committee with also review your Self-Reported Disadvantaged statement for details that indicate the need for financial assistance

Tell us about any obstacles you encountered growing up and how you have worked to overcome these obstacles to reach your professional and personal goals.
