College of Science General Scholarship (Continuing students)

The College of Science General Scholarship application includes several scholarship opportunities for current undergraduate and graduate students. To be considered for the awards complete the University of Utah General Scholarship Application and then complete the College of Science General application. Scholarships are awarded for the 2024-25 academic year. Students graduating Fall 2024 are not eligible. Applicants must be officially declared Science majors: Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Science, Mathematics, or Physics. Pre-majors are not eligible.

  • College of Science Dean’s Scholarship – $4,000 award
  • Don and Rebecca Reese Scholarship in Science Teaching (Need Based) – $2,000 award
  • Impact Scholarship – $9,500 award
  • Joseph T. Crockett M.D. Memorial Scholarship (Need Based) – $3,000 award
  • Paul C. and Darice F. Koo Scholarship – $1,000 award
  • Promise Scholarship – $2,500 award
  • Semnani Family Foundation Scholarship Scholarship – $2,500 award
  • Talent Scholarship – $4,750 award
  • Theodore V. Hanks Scholarship (Non-Resident) – $10,000 award
  • Endowed Scholarship for Underrepresented Groups (Need Based) – $1,000 award

Applications must be submitted by March 1, 2024.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications must include all of the following:

  • a personal statment
  • two names and emails for letter of recommendation
  • a current transcript
  • any additional items that my be required for students who want to be considered for Need-Based awards

Need‐Based Scholarships: To be considered for a need‐based scholarship award, you are required to complete the 2024-25 FAFSA application. The application is now open and will require information from your 2022 taxes. (Students classified as dependent by FAFSA standards must also include parent 2022 tax information). FAFSA applications must be submitted online no later than February 1.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Prepare a personal statement describing your background, academic interests, career objectives and professional goals.
  2. List any pertinent accomplishments, research awards, community involvement or activities, or recognition you have received.
  3. Have you endured or are you currently facing, any personal or financial hardships, or other special circumstances that you would like us to consider in our selection process?
  4. Select your expected date of graduation from the University of Utah.
  5. Submit your UNOFFICIAL transcript for each school attended (University of Utah and/or other colleges or universities.)
  6. Letter of Recommendation #1 - Provide a name and email address of one recommender that has agreed to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf. Your recommender should be a professor in your major or closely allied areas, preferably College of Science faculty.
  7. Letter of Recommendation #2 - Provide a name and email address of one recommender that has agreed to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf. Your recommender should be a professor in your major or closely allied areas, preferably College of Science faculty.
  8. Some scholarships require additional information to be considered:


    • Don and Rebecca Reese Scholarship in Science Teaching: prepare an essay discussing your commitment to teaching science and/or mathematics in the secondary school system in the State of Utah. (A complete FAFSA application is required for this award).
    • Joseph T. Crockett M.D. Memorial Scholarship has a preference for descendants of Suzette & Hyrum Crockett or Mary & John Deegan. Please indicate if you are a descendant. (A complete FAFSA application is required for this award).
    • Theodore V. Hanks Scholarship: Do you have a history of use or sale of illegal drugs? (This award is ONLY for NON-RESIDENTS OF UTAH).
