International and Area Studies Scholarship Application

This is the General Application for the International and Area Studies Scholarships:

1. Asia Center Tuition Waiver Scholarship
2. Center for Latin American Studies Tuition Waiver Scholarship
3. Middle East Studies Program Tuition Waiver Scholarship
4. International Studies Program Tuition Waiver Scholarship

The International and Area Studies tuition waiver provides $5,000 for the academic year ($2,500 Fall and $2,500 Spring) for selected outstanding undergraduate students majoring in Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies, and International Studies. The awards are non-refundable and can only cover tuition. Applicants must carry a GPA of 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher, must be a resident of the State of Utah by the term they will be receiving the waiver and be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens as defined for federal student aid eligibility on the following website: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/eligibility/requirements/non-us-citizens, and seeking a first bachelor’s degree. Students seeking a second bachelor’s degree are not eligible. Eligible students must enroll for a minimum of twelve credit hours each semester.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, students must meet the following five criteria:
a) Have a declared major in one (or more) of the following majors: Asian Studies/ Latin American Studies/ Middle East Studies/ International Studies
b) Have a minimum GPA of 3.5
c) Be a US Citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen
d) Must have Utah residency status by Fall 2023
e) Must be pursuing their first bachelor’s degree and enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester

Evaluation Criteria
Each application will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
a) the potential impact of the scholarship on the student’s academic and professional plans
b) the thoroughness and clarity of the statement of purpose
c) financial need
d) academic merit
