Housing & Residential Education Alumni Scholarship

HOUSING & RESIDENTIAL EDUCATION ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP—OPEN NOV. 1, 2023*

Please note: Student Leaders who receive Housing/Meal Plan compensation (including RAs, SJAs, RHA, etc.) are not eligible for Housing scholarships. It is your responsibility to notify Housing & Residential Education at 801-587-2002 if you become ineligible to receive this scholarship.

The Housing & Residential Education Alumni Scholarship provides three upper-division students (Sophomore, Junior, Senior) the opportunity to receive financial support towards the cost of on-campus housing within Housing & Residential Education (HRE) facilities. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate an interest in actively participating in the on-campus housing experience, and articulate how this experience will support their continued success at the University of Utah.

The Housing & Residential Education Alumni Scholarship provides support to upper-division students as they pursue their degrees at the University of Utah. Institutional data shows that students who reside in on-campus housing graduate at higher rates. Thus, this scholarship aims to support the ongoing success of students, especially those who have not had an on-campus living experience during their time at the University.

Scholarship Amount
This scholarship, sponsored by the University of Utah Alumni Association, is an award for one Academic Year providing up to $8,300 in financial support to be applied toward a student’s housing costs. The scholarship can be applied toward any upper-division HRE housing location/room type based on the room selected by the student at the time of reservation.

Students are responsible for reserving their own room via Housing & Residential Education’s housing sign-up process.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Housing & Residential Education Alumni Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
• Applicant must be an upper-division student (Sophomore, Junior, Senior) in the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
• Applicant must be enrolled at the University of Utah as a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours per semester).
• Applicant must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at The University of Utah.

When awarding this scholarship, special consideration will be given to students who: (1) have overcome obstacles such as socioeconomic or educational disadvantage or disabilities, or (2) who are in the first generation in their family to attend college, or (3) are members of groups that are underrepresented at the University of Utah.
