College of Science General Scholarship (Continuing students)
The College of Science General Scholarship application includes all college and department specific scholarship opportunities for current undergraduate and transfer students valued up to $10,000. To be considered for all the awards complete the University of Utah General Scholarship Application and then complete the College of Science General Scholarship application. Scholarships are awarded for the 2025-26 academic year. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher, full-time enrollment (12 credit hours), and a declared Science major:

Applications must be submitted by February 1, 2025.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications must include all of the following:
- one name and email for a letter of recommendation
- a current unofficial transcript
- any additional items that my be required for students who want to be considered for Need-Based awards
Need‐Based Scholarships: To be considered for a need‐based scholarship award, you are required to complete the 2025-26 FAFSA application. The application will open December 1, 2024, and will require information from your 2023 taxes. FAFSA applications must be submitted online no later than February 1 for consideration.

- What is your intended major and emphasis (if applicable). What drew you to this degree and what do you hope to do with it?
- List any pertinent accomplishments, awards, community involvement, activities, or recognition you have received or engaged in, if any.
- How would scholarship funding help you achieve your goals in the College of Science?
- Will you be receiving any other scholarships for the upcoming academic year? If so, please list the scholarship name and amount.
- Research Involvement
- Are you involved in undergraduate research at the U or elsewhere? If so, briefly describe your research project and how long you’ve been involved in research.
- Have you participated in any of these research programs?
- List the name of your Research Advisor and what department they are in.
- Select your expected date of graduation from the University of Utah.
- Submit your UNOFFICIAL transcript for each school attended (University of Utah and/or other colleges or universities.)
- Letter of Recommendation - Provide a name and Umail address (uXXXXXXX@utah.edu) of a recommender that has agreed to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf. Your recommender should be a professor in your major or closely allied areas, preferably College of Science faculty.
Some scholarships require additional information to be considered:
- Biology applicant:
- What is your conservation area of interest, do you have experience in conservation field either on or off campus, and what are your long-term plans in conservation?
- Geology & Geoscience applicant:
- To be considered for a Capstone Scholarship (e.g. GEO 3900 or Summer Field Course GEO 4510/GEO4520) please describe what you plan to do for your capstone experience (summer field course, research project, internship).
- What general themes of geoscience most interest you e.g., paleontology, mineralogy, hydrology, engineering, geophysics, environmental science, education, etc?
- Teaching major applicant: A complete FAFSA application is required for this award
- Don and Rebecca Reese Scholarship in Science Teaching: prepare an essay discussing your commitment to teach science and/or mathematics in the secondary school system in the State of Utah.
